Welcome to UC Berkeley! We hope to provide you with all the information you'll need to ensure that your conference guests can have Internet connectivity during their stay with us. Please make sure to read over the following information while you plan for your event. Have a great conference!
Conference guests have access to Internet connections in their sleeping rooms at no extra cost. Computers connected to the campus network must meet a number of requirements, so please read the following information and instructions carefully.
Here are some things you will need to do for your guests who will bring their own computers before coming to UC Berkeley:
- Please notify Conference Services, at least 3 weeks in advance, if your guests require Internet access from the sleeping rooms. Your Conference Coordinator will ask you to create a login name and password for In-Room Connection registration.
- Every computer has a unique Ethernet card address that must be registered prior to arrival at UC Berkeley. You can either collect this information for your conferees and register their computers or direct your conferees to register themselves using the instructions below.
- Conference guests must bring their own Ethernet cable, (we recommend one at least 25-ft long).
- Wireless internet access is available in most common areas across all units. In Clark Kerr Campus, wireless internet connection is available only in the Great Hall dining room and in the Academic Services Center in Building 1. You will use the same login and password as when you registered your computer.
Computer Registration Process
Computers should be registered before your conference begins. You may register guest's computers or have guests register themselves on our computer registration page. As the Conference Organizer, please take a moment to check the registration site for your conference to make sure the information we have is correct.

Conference groups may arrange for wired Internet access in meeting rooms. Wireless connectivity may also be available in some areas. Please contact your Conference Services Coordinator for more details. Additional fees may apply.
- Internet Access in Meeting Rooms
Most of the meeting spaces located in the residential unit complexes are wired for networking. Before connecting to the Internet, you must be registered on our network. To register your computer for use we need to know the Ethernet Adapter address of all computers that will be in use. To see what kind of connections are available in meeting rooms, please click here...
- Arranging Meeting Room Connections
- You must provide your Conference Services coordinator each computer's Ethernet/MAC address requiring Internet access. There is a fee of $10/MAC address associated for this service. For instructions on finding the Ethernet card address, please visit http://www.rescomp.berkeley.edu/infocards/?topic=finding-ethernet.
- If you wish to have wireless internet access in rooms that do not already have wireless equipment installed, there is a $50 set up fee for this service in addition to the $10/registered Ethernet/MAC address.
- The same rules apply for computers used in meeting rooms as described here: http://www.housing.berkeley.edu/conference/comp_net_conf_guest.html
- Support
Technical support can be arranged for $50/hour (minimum of 1 hour). To minimize need for onsite technical support, please have your IT contact communicate directly with us, at least 3 weeks prior to your conference. We recommend a pre-arranged initial visit to discuss your technology needs prior to your conference to ensure that everything work as flawlessly as possible.
